From Procurement to Profit

Union Pacific Partners With Tech Startup Center

Union Pacific, the world’s largest publicly traded freight railroad, is hoping to tap some of Silicon Valley’s startup companies to drive innovation in freight transportation.

The railroad is partnering with Plug and Play, a leading startup accelerator and innovation center.

Plug and Play helps startup companies grow with a combination of seed money, mentoring and connections to large companies in industries that may be interested in investing in their ideas.

Union Pacific will sit in on pitches from startup companies and collaborate with the ones it thinks can deliver positive results.

Beth Whited, Union Pacific executive vice president and chief marketing officer, said, “One of the main reasons Union Pacific continues to thrive after 155 years in business is because we are at the leading edge of innovation. Partnering with Plug and Play will help us remain at that forefront.”

Union Pacific Railroad is the operating company of Union Pacific Corp. (NYSE: UNP). It serves some 10,000 customers in 23 states in the western two-thirds of the United States.
